How to play Csus2 on ukulele
Shape 1, 0-2-3-3, reading from the G string on the left:
- Put your index finger on the C string at the 2nd fret, which is D.
- Put your middle finger on the E string at the 3rd fret, which is G.
- Put your ring finger on the A string at the 3rd fret, which is C.
- The open G string adds G; don't touch it.
- Arch your fingers so their tips come down vertically. That keeps them off the open strings, which have to ring for the chord to sound complete.
- On ukulele you strum all four strings. The top G string is tuned higher than the C, which is why ukulele chords sound bright and close.
Other ways to play Csus2
- 5-7-8-5: movable shape at the 5th fret, medium. Same notes, stacked differently, so it sounds a little different.
- 12-12-10-10: movable shape at the 10th fret, medium. Higher up the neck it sounds brighter; handy when another guitar is already playing a lower shape.
Csus2 the capo way
A capo turns an open chord into Csus2: capo on the 5th fret and play the open Gsus2 shape (0-2-3-0). Handy when the rest of the song's chords also have open shapes in that position.

Csus2 replaces the third with the second, so it is neither major nor minor. All 3 notes of Csus2 fit on the ukulele's four strings, with one of them doubled. The open second in Csus2 usually rises to the third, so play Csus2 then C and listen for it to settle. The slow arpeggio button above makes that quality easy to hear.
