How to play Asus2 on ukulele
Shape 1, 4-4-0-0, reading from the G string on the left:
- B: index finger, 4th fret of the G string.
- E: middle finger, 4th fret of the C string.
- Leave the E and A strings open: E and A.
- Arch your fingers so their tips come down vertically. That keeps them off the open strings, which have to ring for the chord to sound complete.
- On ukulele you strum all four strings. The top G string is tuned higher than the C, which is why ukulele chords sound bright and close.
Other ways to play Asus2
- 9-9-7-7: movable shape at the 7th fret, medium. Up the neck the chord gets thinner and brighter, a good contrast to the open version.
Playing Asus2 with a capo
With a capo you can skip the harder shapes: capo on the 2nd fret and play the open Gsus2 shape (0-2-3-0) or capo on the 7th fret and play the open Dsus2 shape (2-2-0-0). Everything above the capo is fingered exactly like the open chord.

Asus2 replaces the third with the second, so it is neither major nor minor. All 3 notes of Asus2 fit on the ukulele's four strings, with one of them doubled. The open second in Asus2 usually rises to the third, so play Asus2 then A and listen for it to settle. On ukulele you hear it best picked slowly, string by string.
