How to play F♯maj7 on ukulele
Shape 1, 3-5-2-4, reading from the G string on the left, starts at the 2nd fret:
- F♯: index finger, 2nd fret of the E string.
- A♯: middle finger, 3rd fret of the G string.
- C♯: ring finger, 4th fret of the A string.
- E♯: pinky finger, 5th fret of the C string.
- This shape uses your pinky. It feels weak at first; press with the tip and let the finger stay curved.
- A four-fret stretch: drop your wrist a little and point your thumb up the back of the neck.
- On ukulele you strum all four strings. The top G string is tuned higher than the C, which is why ukulele chords sound bright and close.
Other ways to play F♯maj7
- 6-6-6-8: movable shape at the 6th fret, medium. A different set of strings gives a different color of the same chord.
- 10-10-9-9: movable shape at the 9th fret, medium. Up the neck the chord gets thinner and brighter, a good contrast to the open version.
