How to play F♯7 on ukulele
Shape 1, 3-4-2-4, reading from the G string on the left, starts at the 2nd fret:
- F♯: index finger, 2nd fret of the E string.
- A♯: middle finger, 3rd fret of the G string.
- E: ring finger, 4th fret of the C string.
- C♯: pinky finger, 4th fret of the A string.
- This shape uses your pinky. It feels weak at first; press with the tip and let the finger stay curved.
- Strum with the pad of your index finger or thumb, all four strings, across the spot where the neck meets the body.
Other ways to play F♯7
- 6-6-6-7: movable shape at the 6th fret, medium. Use it when the next chord sits nearby on the neck.
- 9-10-9-9: movable shape at the 9th fret, medium. Up the neck the chord gets thinner and brighter, a good contrast to the open version.
Playing F♯7 with a capo
No barre needed if a capo is allowed: capo on the 2nd fret and play the open E7 shape (1-2-0-2), capo on the 4th fret and play the open D7 shape (2-2-2-3), capo on the 6th fret and play the open C7 shape (0-0-0-1) or capo on the 7th fret and play the open B7 shape (2-3-2-0). The chord sounds as F♯7 because the capo raises every string by 2 half steps.

- Bmaj7 (I in B major): F♯7 (3-4-2-4) to Bmaj7 (3-3-2-2): your index finger stays put, your middle finger lands on the A string, 2nd fret, move the ring finger to the G string, 3rd fret, the pinky finger goes to the C string, 3rd fret.
