- F♯7 → B (the V7 pulls home a fifth below)
Guitar: F♯7 (2-4-2-3-2-2) to B (x-2-4-4-4-2): the index finger lays across the A to high E strings at the 2nd fret, move the middle finger to the D string, 4th fret, the ring finger goes to the G string, 4th fret, the pinky finger comes down on the B string, 4th fret. Everything moves: lift the whole hand and place the new shape in one go. F♯ carries over from one chord to the other.
Piano: F♯7 to B: play B in 2nd inversion (F♯–B–D♯) and F♯ stays under the same finger, while A♯ moves up to B and E down to D♯. B - F♯7 → Bmaj7 (I in B major)
Guitar: F♯7 (2-4-2-3-2-2) to Bmaj7 (x-2-4-3-4-2): your middle finger stays put, the index finger lays across the A to high E strings at the 2nd fret, the ring finger slides across to the D string at the same fret, the pinky finger comes down on the B string, 4th fret. How F♯7 is built
F♯7 is a dominant seventh chord: a major triad with a flattened seventh on top. It sounds restless and wants to move, most strongly to B, the chord a fifth below. It is also the backbone of the blues, where every chord can be a seventh.
Count keys (black and white) from F♯: 4 half steps up to A♯, 3 half steps up to C♯ then 3 half steps up to E. Written with flats or sharps the other way round it's G♭7; the sound is identical.
