How to play Edim7 on ukulele
Shape 1, 0-1-0-1, reading from the G string on the left:
- Index finger: C string, 1st fret (D♭).
- Middle finger: A string, 1st fret (B♭).
- Let the open G and E strings ring (G and E).
- Arch your fingers so their tips come down vertically. That keeps them off the open strings, which have to ring for the chord to sound complete.
- On ukulele you strum all four strings. The top G string is tuned higher than the C, which is why ukulele chords sound bright and close.
Other ways to play Edim7
- 6-7-6-7: movable shape at the 6th fret, medium. Same notes, stacked differently, so it sounds a little different.
- 9-10-9-10: movable shape at the 9th fret, medium. Higher up the neck it sounds brighter; handy when another guitar is already playing a lower shape.

The chords Edim7 usually goes to, and what changes under your fingers.
- F (leads up a half step): Edim7 (0-1-0-1) to F (2-0-1-0): the index finger slides across to the E string at the same fret, move the middle finger to the G string, 2nd fret. F on ukulele
- Fm (leads up a half step): Edim7 (0-1-0-1) to Fm (1-0-1-3): the index finger slides across to the G string at the same fret, the middle finger slides across to the E string at the same fret, the ring finger comes down on the A string, 3rd fret. No finger can stay, so practice lifting all of them together and landing the new shape as a unit. Fm on ukulele
- A (a fifth down): Edim7 (0-1-0-1) to A (2-1-0-0): your index finger stays put, the middle finger goes to the G string, 2nd fret. That makes it one of the quickest changes from this chord. Listen for E and D♭, which stay put while the rest moves. A on ukulele

Getting Edim7 under your fingers
Pick shape 1 one string at a time, low to high: G, D♭, E, B♭. Every note should ring clearly; if one thuds, adjust that finger before you strum. Then switch to 6-7-6-7 and back four times without looking at your hand.
