Other ways to play C♯m

Playing C♯m with a capo

A capo turns an open chord into C♯m: capo on the 4th fret and play the open Am shape (x-0-2-2-1-0). Handy when the rest of the song's chords also have open shapes in that position.

Changing from C♯m to the chords around it

These are the changes you'll meet most often with C♯m, using the first shape of each chord.

C♯m has the gentle, slightly melancholy sound of a minor chord. A minor chord softens a progression. Try C♯m right after C♯ major to hear how much one note changes. The slow arpeggio button above makes that quality easy to hear.

Getting C♯m under your fingers

Arpeggiate x-4-6-6-5-4 from the lowest string: C♯, G♯, C♯, E, G♯. Then strum it and listen for the same 5 notes together. Then switch to x-4-2-1-2-x and back four times without looking at your hand.

You may also see it as D♭m; nothing changes on the guitar.
